Before the name, there was the work.
Horizontal San Antonio didn't begin with a strategic plan or a founding document. It began with a conviction — that reaching toward community isn't optional. It's the point.
The decade that built everything.
Horizontal San Antonio was born from the outreach ministry of Vertical Church.
What began with a Back to School Giveaway in 2015 grew into a decade of serving the community through school supply distributions, family events, holiday assistance programs, food distributions, and outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness. Year after year, the church responded to needs as they arose, building relationships and creating opportunities for families to access support, resources, and hope.
As the need continued to grow, so did the vision. Church leaders recognized that lasting transformation required more than seasonal events—it required a dedicated organization focused on serving individuals and families year-round.
In 2026, that vision became Horizontal San Antonio, an independent nonprofit organization and community development center. While rooted in the service legacy of Vertical Church, Horizontal was established to provide more direct, consistent, and comprehensive support through strategic partnerships, coordinated services, and pathways to long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Today, Horizontal San Antonio exists to strengthen housing stability, advance economic mobility, and build family resiliency—with the conviction that no one is beyond reach. Vertical Church remains a committed and impactful partner in our work.
